Team Building – The Why and How of Brainstorming
Have you ever wanted to Brainstorm? Would you like for your team to be able to Brainstorm together? Want to Brainstorm yourself? Well the Idea (pun intended) of Brainstorming is a tried method used for coming up with some of the most creative ideas and plans. Think of some companies know for their creativity, Google, Walt Disney, and Pixar; these companies are leading examples of Leadership, Innovation, Creativity, and Team Building – to accomplish this they use brainstorming. We all have the capability to brainstorm, we simply need to take the opportunity to use it.
Why should you Brainstorm? Simply, it is an opportunity to benefit from the experiences of your team members and harness those life experiences to create something unique for your ministry. You know your kids and your ministry better than anyone else so get your team together and have fun creating something new that they will love.
The question I’m sure your asking now is, where do I start with facilitating one of these Brainstorming sessions? Here at CMBuzz we have put together an easy step-by-step guide for you to use. Step 1 – Go ahead and schedule a time and place for the session right now. Step 2 – Make sure that the place you plan to meet in is a fun and entertaining atmosphere, try to avoid classrooms.
Step Three – gather a bunch of fun stuff and place it on the table. This can be things like Legos, K’Nex, Hot Wheels, Playdoh, and Nerf Guns, you get the idea. Step Four – Get many different ways to keep track of all the ideas. Like Post-It notes, Markers, a White Board, etc. Step Five – Decide on a topic that you want to Brainstorm about and keep everyone else focused. Once you get to this step remember – There are no bad ideas. Step Six – write down everything that anyone suggests, while keeping the ideas moving along quickly. Step Seven – Once you have finished recording everything, start to narrow down the list, making sure it includes only the thoughts that will actually be beneficial for your team.
Take this final set of ideas, and put then into an action plan. When you leave your Brainstorming session you should have a clearly defined set of Goals, along with some measurable Action Steps.
