Using Some Basic Diet Adjustments to Lose Those Stubborn Inches

Sometimes, in spite of your very best weight loss efforts, you can still find yourself still sporting a rather large stomach. This can be very frustrating and can undermine your motivation and dieting goals.

Before taking any dramatic measures to decrease caloric intake further or restrict more fat and sugar, take inventory of what you are currently eating. There can be several reasons that you are not losing the weight that you want to lose.

Consider what you are eating. Many people think that if they just don’t eat much, they will lose weight, when in fact, this is not true. You may very well be eating the wrong kinds of food, and if they are full of saturated fats and empty calories, you can bet that they are going to hang on a lot longer than you want them to.

Look at it this way. A typical fast food lunch of a burger, fries and soda tips the scales at around 1000 calories, around 90 grams of fat and about 80 grams of sugar. For one meal! If this is what you are eating, even if it is all you are eating each day, you aren’t going to lose weight.

Incorporating healthy food options into your diet will go a long way in aiding your weight loss efforts. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean meats should be staples in your diet.

If you are trying to stick to a healthy lifestyle and are eating mostly healthy foods, check to see if you are supplementing with items that are marketed as “diet foods.” This could also be a problem.

Many so-called diet foods are actually high in fat or sugar. Some are even high in calories. Before you purchase those “diet” cookies, read the label. Look at serving size, caloric content, fat grams and sugar grams.

Another issue that is quite common is that you make exceptions. If you reward yourself too often, you’ll find that this can become a real problem. One cookie or some chocolate every now and again is fine, but if you are eating a donut or a whole chocolate bar several times a week, this can hurt you!

Train your body to enjoy the natural sweetness of fruit, berries, even natural honey. When you have a sweet craving you can grab a handful of blueberries or some natural yogurt with fruit and you won’t wreck your diet.

Another common error that dieters make is to reduce their meals or restrict their food intake to the point that they are not eating enough. This will cause your metabolism to grind to a halt as your body thinks that it is starving.

To keep your metabolism up, make sure that you eat three small meals a day as well as two or three healthy snacks to keep keep you going. Make sure that you keep your body well fueled and energetic; you’ll soon see some great results.

Even if you are eating totally healthy, there can still be a food culprit that is causing you to appear heavier in the mid section. Yes, even healthy foods can cause your midsection to increase in size. But wait! It isn’t fat, it is likely just bloat.

The increased fiber intake can cause your body to retain water and make your midsection appear larger. Fiber is a wonderful thing, it keeps your system operating as it should, but it can most definitely cause your pants to get a little tighter due to the water retention that occurs in your body because of the fiber.

This leads in very neatly to another reason that you may not be seeing the loss that you are after.. If your body thinks that there is not enough water around, it will make sure to keep the water with it as much as possible. Drink water to solve this problem.

When you go to drink lots of water, you’ll find that you are making sure that your body is running smoothly and that it will help you get rid of the common bloat. Drink water whenever you can get it, and make sure that you are totally satisfied.

Remember that at the end of the day, you are going to need to exercise as well as diet. Get out and find an exercise that you really love. Exercise will help you burn those calories and turn that protein and fat into muscles. Just dieting only gets half the job done.

Before you do something drastic, and, in the long run, useless, make sure that you check out what your options are going to be when it comes to the diet that you are eating; a few adjustments can make all the difference.
